Telephone pole covered with nails and tacks

4th Street Long Beach, CA    (July 2003)

We saw this wild sculpture thing at the Golden West Swap Meet

a couple of months ago. It's the broken neck of an acoustic guitar

glued onto a piece of driftwood and mounted on a chunk of strange soil material

with a bunch of beads strung around it. It cost 10 bucks, so we didn't buy it.

Here's an enhanced/altered photo of the sculpture (so you can see it clearer)

Nativity Scene - purchased at a Salvation Army in 2001

Yes, we know it's August, but we wanted to showcase this little nativity scene before we forgot about it.

It's small (5 X 6 inches) and obviously very carefully handmade, with little plastic figures and some styrofoam.

We were drawn to this little thing becauseit has a lot of great stuff to look at

(a Christmas star, fluffy blue cotton-candy sky, a palm tree, two sheep, one possible wise man, plus Mary and Joe)

However, there's no baby Jesus to be seen. Oh, well.

The Shadow Lady

We found this mysterious photo while taking out the trash on a typical, normal trash day.

It was inside a large box of photographic paper, which contained several other less-mysterious photos.

This image has not been retouched in any way.

Lottie Brunn - The Queen Of Juggling

A woman of unsurpassed accomplishments in the field of juggling, she learned the art with her brother, Francis Brunn, in pre-war Germany. At age 14 she could do eight rings. She came to America with Francis in 1948 to play the Ringling Brothers circus. She began working solo in 1951, and appeared alone in Ringling's center ring in 1957 as "The World's Fastest Woman Juggler." Her son, Michael Chirrick, also became a professional juggler. She now lives in New Jersey, performing only occasionally.

Naked Pig In A Banana

In the face of possible charges of indecency, we've decided to share this entertaining piece of ceramic novelty art.

It was purchased at a 99 Cent Store a few months back.

We feel it's a very a good thing that the pig is crossing her legs

Meet the Elbows of our Staff

We thought you'd enjoy this historical elbow photo.

Our junior webmaster had an elbow problem about 6 months ago.

Out of nowhere, his elbow swelled to the size of a tennis ball.

He thinks it was some sort of peculiar form of bursitis.

Fortunately there was.no pain involved, and after a couple of weeks

the swelling subsided.
